Türkiye’s natural gas imports increased by 3.71% in October compared to the same month in 2022, according to data from Türkiye’s energy watchdog on Thursday.
Natural gas imports in October increased to around 3.35 billion cubic meters (bcm) from approximately 3.23 bcm in the same month of 2022, Türkiye’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) said in its monthly natural gas market report.
According to EMRA data, the country imported approximately 2.83 bcm of natural gas via pipelines in October, while 525 million cubic meters (mcm) were purchased as LNG. This represents a 19% increase in pipeline imports and a 38% decrease in LNG imports.
Russia was the majority supplier, providing 1.98 bcm of natural gas to Türkiye, while Azerbaijan and Algeria followed with 718.9 mcm and 448 mcm, respectively.
The country’s total gas consumption was also up by 7.97% to approximately 3.14 bcm compared to the same month in 2022.
Household consumption, however, dropped by 2.97% to 409 mcm, and gas consumption in power plants increased by 11.44% to 1.14 bcm during the same period.
The natural gas storage volume in October increased by 41% to around 5.38 bcm, compared to 3.81 bcm in October 2022.
