Türkiye’s natural gas imports decreased by 5.3% in March 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, according to data from Türkiye’s energy watchdog on Thursday.
Natural gas imports in March decreased to around 4.31 billion cubic meters (bcm) from approximately 4.55 bcm in the same month of 2023, Türkiye’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) said in its monthly natural gas market report.
Russia was the largest natural gas supplier to Turkey, providing 1.80 bcm, while Azerbaijan and Iran followed with 1.02 bcm and 247 million cubic meters (mcm), respectively.
Algeria exported the largest volume of LNG to Türkiye, with 518 mcm.
The country’s total gas consumption rose by 5.4% to approximately 5.96 bcm compared to the same month in 2023.
Household consumption increased by 7.4% to 2.94 bcm, while gas consumption in power plants decreased by 6.5% to 996 bcm during the same period.
The natural gas storage volume in March was reduced by 1.6% to around 4.14 bcm, compared to 4.20 bcm in March 2023.
