Türkiye’s natural gas imports decreased by 11.15% in July compared to the same month in 2022, according to data from Türkiye’s energy watchdog on Friday.
Natural gas imports in July fell to around 3.03 billion cubic meters (bcm) from approximately 3.41 bcm in the same month of 2022, Türkiye’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) said in its monthly natural gas market report.
According to EMRA data, the country imported approximately 2.54 bcm of natural gas via pipelines in July, while 483 million cubic meters (mcm) were purchased as LNG. This represented a 15.88% decrease in pipeline imports and a 26.22% increase in LNG imports.
Russia was the majority supplier, providing 1.66 bcm of natural gas to Türkiye, while Azerbaijan and Algeria followed with 883.5 mcm and 483.1 mcm, respectively.
However, gas imports from Iran decreased by 100% in July, while imports from Russia, Azerbaijan and Algeria increased by 15%, 24.4%, and 26.2%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
The country’s total gas consumption also fell by 9.83% to approximately 3 bcm compared to the same month in 2022.
Household consumption grew by 46.6% to 363 mcm, and the use of gas in power plants rose by 13.8% to 1.15 bcm during the same period.
The natural gas storage volume in July increased by 50% to around 5.04 bcm, compared to 3.36 bcm in July 2022.
