Türkiye’s energy import bill up 99.9% in August

Türkiye’s energy import bill increased 99.9% to $8.73 billion in August compared to the same month of 2021, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute on Friday.

The overall energy import bill soared last month due to increases in global energy prices and a revival in economic activity post COVID-19.

The data shows that the overall import bill, including energy and other items, totaled $32.53 billion in August, with energy accounting for 26.8% of the overall import figures.

Crude oil imports showed more than a 3% increase to 2.94 million tons of crude in August this year, compared to 2.85 million tons in August 2021.
