Türkiye’s daily electricity consumption increased by around 0.13% on Friday compared to the previous day, reaching a record high of 1,189,507 megawatt-hours, according to official figures from the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS) on Saturday.
Hourly power consumption peaked at 56,961 megawatt-hours at 3 p.m. local time (1200 GMT), data from TEIAS showed.
The country’s electricity usage dropped to the lowest level of 38,655 megawatt-hours at 7 a.m. local time (0400 GMT).
The country recorded its previous historical peak consumption on July 18, when daily electricity consumption reached 1,187,871 megawatt-hours. Heavy use of air conditioners amid the seasonal high temperatures and increased agricultural irrigation resulted in record electricity consumption.
Electricity production amounted to 1,191,072 megawatt-hours on Friday, marking an increase of 0.2% compared to Thursday.
Electricity production from natural gas plants constituted 22.6% of total generation, while imported coal and wind energy power plants contributed 19% and 15.6%, respectively.
On Friday, the country’s electricity exports amounted to 7,170 megawatt-hours and imports totaled 5,557 megawatt-hours.
