Türkiye’s central government budget balance posted a 3.6 billion Turkish liras ($199.2 million) surplus in August, according to data released by the Treasury and Finance Ministry on Thursday.
The figure improved from a 64 billion Turkish liras ($3.7 billion) deficit in July, but deteriorated from a surplus of 40.8 billion Turkish liras ($4.8 billion) in August 2021, the data showed.
Türkiye’s budget revenues came at 305.9 billion liras ($17 billion) while expenditures amounted to 302.3 billion liras ($16.8 billion) last month.
Non-interest expenditures were 279.7 billion liras ($15.5 billion) and interest payments were 22.6 billion liras ($1.3 billion) in August.
One US dollar traded for 18 Turkish liras on average last month and 15.60 in the first eight months.
In January-August, the budget balance saw a surplus of 33.1 billion Turkish liras ($2.1 billion), improving from a deficit of 37.5 billion Turkish liras ($4.65 billion) in the same period last year.
