Türkiye to face Japan in friendly match

ISTANBUL

Türkiye will take on Japan in a friendly match on Tuesday that will be played in Belgium.

The friendly clash, kicking off Genk’s Cegeka Arena, at 1220GMT, is part of the preparations for the EURO 2024 qualifying.

Türkiye, who will meet Japan after 21 years, eliminated Asian powerhouse in the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup with the goal from Umit Davala.

The Turkish national team has dominated its fixture against Japan with five wins in seven meetings. Japan has one win and one match ended in a draw.

Meanwhile, the Japanese national team beat Germany 4-1 in a friendly match on Saturday. Hansi Flick has been sacked as manager of Germany in the wake of home defeat.

The 58-year-old Flick became the first manager to be sacked in the history of the German men’s national team.
