November 22, 2024 1:08 pmTürkiye is increasing the share of renewable energy in total installed capacity every day and 2024 will be a record year in terms of total installed capacity increase, said Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister on Friday.
Türkiye is able to meet the electricity needs of all households in the country with wind and solar energy, Alparslan Bayraktar told the Istanbul Energy Forum, organized by Anadolu under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.
“By 2035, we aim to quadruple our current wind and solar installed capacity,” Bayraktar added.
Last month, Bayraktar announced that Türkiye aims to increase installed wind and solar capacity to 120,000 megawatts (MW) by 2035, requiring a nearly $80 billion investment.
-Regional cooperation
Noting that Türkiye will continue to develop regional energy cooperation on energy, Bayraktar said that the country will develop projects that will contribute to the energy security of Türkiye as well as the region.
Ankara is determined to develop international oil and natural gas pipelines, electricity and natural gas transmission lines with its neighbors, he added.
Bayraktar added that he also discussed these bilateral and multilateral energy cooperation projects with his fellow ministers and company representatives from several countries on the sidelines of the forum.
Noting that the energy sector passing through very important challenges, Bayraktar said that there may be “much more challenging processes ahead of us”.
“We believe that we can only be ready for these challenges through strong regional cooperation and projects and that we can manage these processes by working closely together,” he added.
