July 14, 2023 7:20 amTürkiye’s daily electricity consumption on Thursday reached a new record high of 1,058,962 megawatt-hours due to the heavy use of air conditioners amid the seasonal high temperatures and increased agricultural irrigation, according to official figures of the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS) on Friday.
The country recorded its previous historical peak consumption on July 12, when daily electricity consumption reached 1,027,568 megawatt-hours.
Hourly power consumption peaked at 50,869 megawatt-hours at 3 p.m. local time (1200 GMT), data from TEIAS showed.
The country’s electricity usage dropped to its lowest level of 33,370 megawatt-hours at 7 a.m. local time (0400 GMT).
Electricity production totaled 1,048,783 megawatt-hours on Thursday.
Electricity production from imported coal plants constituted 22.6% of total generation, while natural gas plants and hydroelectric plants contributed 22.1% and 17.6%, respectively.
On Thursday, the country’s electricity exports amounted to 6,208 megawatt-hours, while imports totaled 16,387 megawatt-hours.
