Türkiye’s daily electricity consumption on Friday reached a new record high of 1,077,063 megawatt-hours due to the heavy use of air conditioners amid the seasonal high temperatures and increased agricultural irrigation, according to official figures of the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS) on Saturday.
The country recorded its previous historical peak consumption on July 13, when daily electricity consumption reached 1,058,962 megawatt-hours.
Hourly power consumption peaked at 51,588 megawatt-hours at 4 p.m. local time (1300 GMT), data from TEIAS showed.
The country’s electricity usage dropped to its lowest level of 34,625 megawatt-hours at 7 a.m. local time (0400 GMT).
Electricity production totaled 1,067,367 megawatt-hours on Friday.
Electricity production from natural gas plants constituted 23.7% of total generation, while imported coal plants and hydroelectric plants contributed 22.4% and 16.3%, respectively.
On Friday, the country’s electricity exports amounted to 6,413 megawatt-hours, while imports totaled 16,112 megawatt-hours.
