July 13, 2023 8:50 amTürkiye’s daily electricity consumption on Wednesday reached a new record high totaling 1,027,568 megawatt-hours due to the heavy use of air conditioners amid the seasonal high temperatures and the greater use of agricultural irrigation, according to official figures of the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS) on Thursday.
The country recorded its historical peak consumption on July 6, when daily electricity consumption reached 1,023,756 megawatt-hours.
Hourly power consumption peaked at 49,261 megawatt-hours at 3 p.m. local time (1200 GMT), data from TEIAS showed.
The country’s electricity usage dropped to its lowest level of 32,978 megawatt-hours at 7 a.m. local time (0400 GMT).
Electricity production totaled 1,017,503 megawatt-hours on Wednesday.
Electricity production from imported coal plants constituted 23.2% of total generation, while natural gas plants and hydroelectric plants contributed 22% and 15%, respectively.
On Wednesday, the country’s electricity exports amounted to 6,698 megawatt-hours, while imports totaled 16,792 megawatt-hours.
