Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan received Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Monday in New York for talks.
Erdogan and Salam held a closed-door meeting at the Turkevi Center, or Turkish House, across from UN headquarters.
The meeting focused on bilateral relations between Türkiye and Lebanon and regional developments, according to Türkiye’s Communication Directorate.
Erdogan told Salam that Türkiye is continuing efforts to help establish lasting peace and stability in Lebanon, said the statement.
He also said an international initiative was needed to replace the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Ankara will continue standing by the Lebanese people during difficult times and will maintain the delivery of humanitarian and medical assistance to Lebanon, Erdogan stressed.
During the meeting, the president invited Salam to attend the COP31 Leaders’ Summit, which Türkiye is scheduled to host in November.
