Türkiye beat Wales 2-0 in EURO 2024 qualifiers

Türkiye beat Wales 2-0 in their UEFA EURO 2024 qualifiers game on Monday.

In the ninth minute of the game played at Samsun New 19 Mayis Stadium, Wales’s own goal was disallowed as Türkiye’s Zeki Celik was flagged offside after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) inspection.

Wales midfielder Joe Morrell was sent off with a red card after a bad tackle on Ferdi Kadioglu in the 41st minute.

Turkish skipper Hakan Calhanoglu’s penalty kick, which was given after Aaron Ramsey’s handball, was saved by Wales goalie Danny Ward in the 64th minute.

Umut Nayir put one into the Wales net but it was disallowed once more due to a handball in the 70th minute.

Nayir sent another into the net two minutes later and Türkiye finally got the lead.

Young Turkish star Arda Guler’s screamer to the top left corner from long range made it 2-0 in the 80th minute.

Turkish goalie Mert Gunok made several critical saves throughout the game to cement Türkiye’s victory.

Türkiye have 9 points, while Wales have 4 points in Group D.

Group D leaders Türkiye will take on Armenia on Sept. 8 in their next game in the group.
