October 20, 2022 6:10 amTürkiye aims to increase its solar power photovoltaic (PV) panel production capacity to 20,000 megawatts (MW) by 2023 to become one of the top three producers in the world in this field, according to the CEO of Türkiye’s Kalyon PV factory, Ersan Tüfekci on Thursday.
During his opening speech at BifiPV 2022 in the Baskent Organized Industry Zone, Tufekci said Türkiye is on its way to achieving its aim of expanding solar capacity as installed capacity rose from 40 megawatts in 2014 to more than 8,000 megawatts in 2022.
This is thanks in part to production at the Kalyon plant where $475 million for local production and development has been invested.
He described the integrated plant as unique in the world consisting of four factories for the production of ingot, wafer, cell and solar modules.
The Research and Development Center on the site employs more than 100 researchers who specialize in developing future solar technologies.
To date, the factory has produced around 3.25 million PV modules since its inception on Aug. 19, 2020.
The factory has enlarged its capacity to expand production from the current 1,200-megawatt capacity to 2,000 megawatts annually.
BifiPV 2022, which is hosting around 40 experts from the US, Europe and Asia, will run until Oct. 22.
On the final day of the conference program, a visit to the Karapinar solar energy power plant located in Konya, central Anatolia has been arranged for participants.
