The Turkish Treasury’s cash balance ran a surplus in May for the first time since Nov. 2023, according to official data released on Friday.
Treasury’s cash surplus reached 234.8 billion Turkish liras ($7.3 billion) last month, the Treasury and Finance Ministry data showed.
Cash revenues of the Treasury stood at 1 trillion liras ($31.7 billion), while its expenditures totaled 787.5 billion liras ($24.4 billion).
Its interest payments came in at 102.8 billion liras ($3.2 billion) last month.
Except for interest payments, the cash balance showed a surplus of 337.5 billion liras ($10.5 billion).
The Turkish lira traded at an average of 32.2269 per US dollar in May.
In January-May, the Treasury’s cash deficit came in at 572.8 billion liras ($18.2 billion), its revenues 3.4 trillion liras ($150.5 billion), and expenditures were at 3.9 trillion liras ($124.8 billion).
The average USD/TRY exchange rate was around 31.4584 in the first five months of this year.
