Turkish tennis player Zeynep Sonmez set to make Australian Open main table debut

ANKARA

Turkish tennis player Zeynep Sonmez this month is set to make her Australian Open main table debut.

Sonmez, ranked as high as 88th in the world, will directly participate in the first Grand Slam of 2025.

The 22-year-old, who is ranked 93rd in the updated classification, will be the only Turkish tennis player to appear in the Australian Open main table matches this year.

Four athletes from Türkiye will take part in the Australian Open Junior Tournament, with qualifiers set to start on Jan. 15 and the main table matches on Jan. 18.

Deniz Dilek will compete in the main table, while Ada Kumru, Haydar Cem Gokpınar, and Kerem Yılmaz will compete in the qualifiers.

In para tennis, with first rounds to be played on Jan. 21, Ahmet Kaplan and Ali Ataman will take to the court.
