ANKARA
Turkish tennis player Zeynep Sonmez defeated Ekaterina Makarova in the qualifiers of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 500 tournament Brisbane International and advanced to the final round on Friday.
The 22-year-old, who faced Makarova in the first match of the season, won 2-0 in sets of 6-1 and 6-0 against her Russian opponent and reached the final round.
Sonmez will face another Russian tennis player, Polina Kudermetova, in the final round on Sunday.
The Brisbane International, which was established in 2009, is a professional tennis tournament played on outdoor hardcourts in Brisbane, Queensland in Australia.
