Turkish stocks up at midweek open

ISTANBUL

Türkiye’s benchmark stock index opened Wednesday at 5,224.40 points, up 0.33%, or 17.08 points, from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index closed Tuesday at 5,207.32 points following a sharp decline of 2.18%, with a daily trading volume of 74 billion liras ($3.9 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was at 18.9790 as of 9.45 a.m. local time (0645GMT), the euro/lira exchange rate stood at 20.3780, while a British pound traded for 23.0720 Turkish liras.

Brent crude oil was selling for around $78.4 per barrel, while the price of an ounce of gold was $1,904.45.
