Turkish stock exchange down at week’s open

 

ANKARA

Türkiye’s benchmark stock index opened at 5,879.46 points on Monday, falling 2.36%, or 118.17 points, from the previous close.

On Friday, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index surged 5.16% to close the week at 4,997.63, with a daily trading volume of 97.7 billion Turkish liras ($5.2 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was at 18.8305 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT), the euro/lira exchange rate stood at 20.3107, while a British pound traded for 22.7078 Turkish liras.

Brent crude oil was selling for around $80.30 per barrel, while the price of an ounce of gold was $1,888.80.

Borsa Istanbul announced it has temporarily suspended short selling transactions in the wake of a deadly earthquake that hit the country’s southern region early on Monday.
