Türkiye’s benchmark stock index ended the first trading day of 2026 at 11,498.38 points, surging 2.1% from its previous close.
After starting Friday at 11,296.52 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index earned 236.86 points from Wednesday’s close. On Thursday, the markets were closed due to the New Year’s Day.
The lowest value of the index was 11,296.52, while the daily high was 11,498.38.
The market value of the BIST 100 was around 11.33 trillion Turkish liras ($264.4 billion), with a daily trading volume of 115.9 billion liras ($2.61 billion).
A total of 78 stocks on the index rose and 21 dropped, compared to the previous close.
Gold was $4,334.25 per ounce, while Brent crude oil sold for $59.99 per barrel as of 6.25 pm local time (1525GMT).
The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 43.0385, the euro/Turkish lira exchange rate 50.5470, and the British pound traded for 58.0260 liras.
