ANKARA
Turkish motorcyclist Toprak Razgatlioglu will set off for the 12th and final leg of the 2024 Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) in Spain this weekend.
If Toprak can keep 37 points ahead of his closest rival Nicolo Bulega of Aruba Ducati in Race 1 on Saturday, he will capture his second world championship.
He currently has 473 points, 46 points ahead of Italian rider Bulega.
The Turkish rider, nicknamed “El Turco,” has finished first in 13 consecutive races this season, setting a record for the most consecutive first-place finishes in the history of the competition.
The 28-year-old also finished second five times and third in two races this season.
In a total of 216 races in his Superbike World Championship career, Toprak has won a place in the top three of the podium 136 times, including 56 in the top spot.
Toprak won his first championship in the 2021 season with the Yamaha team.
The BMW Rokit rider, who returned to the track in Spain on Sept. 28-29 after a break due to injury following a Sept. 6 free practice session crash in France, may bring home his team’s first title if he secures the championship in Spain.
The 12th and final round of the season in WorldSBK will be held on Saturday and Sunday at Spain’s Circuito de Jerez Circuit, which is 4,423 meters (12,5211 feet) long, including a chicane curve.
