The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced Wednesday promotion and relegation rules for the 2023/24 season.

The TFF said in a statement that only two clubs will be relegated from the Turkish Super Lig this season instead of four clubs, reserving the rights of Atakas Hatayspor and Gaziantep FK.

Super Lig clubs Atakas Hatayspor and Gaziantep FK, which are from the quake-hit region, previously announced their withdrawal from the Turkish top tier for the current season.

Atakas Hatayspor were on 14th spot, while Gaziantep FK stood at 10th place in the Super Lig standings when two powerful earthquakes struck.

On Feb. 6, the magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 quakes rocked 11 provinces in southern and southeastern Türkiye — Kahramanmaras, Hatay, Gaziantep, Adiyaman, Malatya, Adana, Diyarbakir, Kilis, Osmaniye, Sanliurfa, and Elazig.

More than 50,000 people were killed and 107,200 others injured in the back-to-back tremors, according to official figures.

Over 13.5 million people in Türkiye have been affected by the devastating quakes, as well as many others in northern Syria.
