Trabzonspor beat Besiktas 3-0 in Turkish Super Lig showdown

ANKARA 

Trabzonspor beat Istanbul’s Besiktas 3-0 in a Sunday Trendyol Super Lig showdown at home.

The Black Sea club’s Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu, who was signed from Southampton in September, scored the opening goal of the match by a header in the area in the 29th minute at Papara Park.

It was his first goal for Trabzonspor.

In the minute 41, Anastasios Bakasetas scored from freekick.

The Greek midfielder, who fired a low shot to the near post from a narrow angle, beat Besiktas goalkeeper Mert Gunok. Trabzonspor doubled their lead before the break.

In the 59th minute of the second half, Besiktas’ Omar Colley scored however it was ruled out for a foul.

Two minutes later, Trabzonspor’s Bosnian winger Edin Visca made it 3-0 to name the result.

Trabzonspor midfielder Batista Mendy sent a killer ball to Mahmoud Trezeguet, who beat Besiktas’ offside trap.

Egyptian winger Trezeguet passed the ball into the area, where Visca was running, and the Bosnian player had an easy chance to score.

Trabzonspor are fourth with nine points in five matches. Besiktas, with a game in hand, have seven points to be in the ninth spot.

Fenerbahce are the Super Lig leaders after winning all their four games.

Earlier Sunday, the Yellow Canaries beat Antalyaspor 3-2 in Istanbul as Polish midfielder Sebastian Szymanski scored the winning goal in the 80th minute to rescue his team.

On Saturday, Galatasaray beat Samsunspor 4-2 in a home game as Turkish forward Kerem Akturkoglu scored double, and Argentine forward Mauro Icardi scored a second-half header.

Galatasaray are now second with 10 points.

Caykur Rizespor, another team from Türkiye’s Black Sea region, are currently in the third position with 10 points to pressure Galatasaray and leaders Fenerbahce in early standings.
