TotalEnergies, SOCAR start production in Absheron gas field in Azerbaijan

by Anadolu Agency

French energy giant TotalEnergies and Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR announced on Monday the start of production from the Absheron gas and condensate field in the Caspian Sea, around 100 kilometers southeast of Baku.

This first phase connects a subsea production well to a new gas processing platform linked to SOCAR’s existing facilities in Oil Rocks, an industrial settlement in Azerbaijan’s capital city, Baku.

The field has a daily production capacity of 4 million cubic meters of gas and 12,000 barrels of condensate, which will be sold on the domestic market in Azerbaijan.

The Absheron field development is congruent with TotalEnergies’ aim of supplying a more competitively priced gas supply with low greenhouse gas emission intensity to meet growing demand.

TotalEnergies and SOCAR both hold a 50% interest in the project, which the joint company JOCAP (Joint Operating Company of Absheron Petroleum) operates.

‘We are very pleased to announce the start-up of the Absheron gas field, the result of our exploration team’s success. This project is in line with the Company’s strategy of meeting the growing demand for gas and reinforces our partnership with the national company SOCAR,’ Nicolas Terraz, president of Exploration and Production at TotalEnergies, was quoted as saying in the statement.
