Global air cargo market total demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometers (CTK), increased 8.2% in November compared to November 2023 figures, according to data released Thursday by The International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Total capacity for aircraft cargo, which is measured in available cargo tonne-kilometers (ACTK), grew 4.6% in November compared to the same month in 2023.
“It was a good November for air cargo with 8.2% demand growth nearly doubling the 4.6% growth in cargo capacity,” Willie Walsh, IATA’s director general, said in a statement. “While the strong performance is very likely to extend into 2025, there are some downside risks including inflation, geopolitical uncertainties and trade tensions,” he added.
The rise in global industrial production and global goods trade might positively affect the demand for air cargo, while concerns about an economic slowdown might shrink it.
