ATHENS
A game in the Netherlands’s top football division Eredivisie has been canceled due to a planned police strike.
The Municipality of Rotterdam has called off the match between Feyenoord and Ajax, citing security concerns as the planned strike would leave the event without police presence, Ajax said on Tuesday.
The rescheduling of the match is currently undetermined.
This decision follows an announcement by police unions on Monday stating that no officers will be available for the match, originally set for Sept. 1.
According to public broadcaster NOS, police unions have been advocating for months for improved early retirement benefits. The unions have warned that their strike actions will extend beyond football matches and will affect other events and demonstrations if their demands are not met.
