Thomas Tuchel to leave Bayern Munich at end of season

ISTANBUL

Bayern Munich announced Wednesday that they would part ways with manager Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.

“We have agreed that we will end our working relationship at the end of this season. Until then, I will of course continue to do everything I can with my coaching staff to achieve maximum success,” Tuchel said in a statement.

“FC Bayern Munich and head coach Thomas Tuchel have jointly decided to end their working relationship, which was originally set to run until 30 June 2025, on 30 June 2024,” Bayern Munich said.

The 50-year-old German manager replaced Julian Nagelsmann as head coach last year.

Before Bayern Munich, Tuchel coached Mainz 05, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea.

He worked for Paris Saint-Germain to win back-to-back French league titles in 2019 and 2020.

Under Tuchel’s helm, Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the 2020 Champions League final in Lisbon, but lost to Bayern Munich.

Tuchel led Chelsea to win a UEFA Champions League title, Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Collecting 50 points, Bayern Munich are in second place in UEFA club rankings, eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen.

Last week the Bavarians suffered a narrow loss to Lazio in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 match.
