Palestinian Ambassador to the UK Husam Zomlot has called on the international community to defend their values by not remaining silent against Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking to reporters after an event in the House of Commons on Wednesday, Zomlot criticized Western media for its coverage of Gaza, saying many of the outlets are parroting false stories on the situation in the besieged enclave.

“We call on the media to be honest, and to stick to their profession, which is a profession that seeks to convey the truth … not to try and blame the victims, but to reflect what is happening on the ground.”

In response to Anadolu’s question on his message to the international community about the ongoing situation in Gaza, Zomlot said: “This is your moment to defend your own values, to defend your own system to defend your own rules.”

Since the Oct. 7 Hamas attack, Israel has continued with its relentless bombardment of the Gaza Strip, killing at least 11,500 Palestinians, more than half of them being women and children.

Thousands of buildings, including hospitals, mosques, and churches, have also either been damaged or fully destroyed.

The official Israeli death toll, meanwhile, stands at 1,200.

The UN Security Council passed a resolution Wednesday calling for the immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas and for urgent and extended humanitarian corridors throughout the enclave to save and protect civilian lives.

Since Oct. 21, as many as 1,139 trucks carrying medicines, food and water have entered Gaza via the Rafah crossing with Egypt, representing only a fraction of the needs, according to the UN.
