Gianluigi Buffon, a legendary goalkeeper from Italy and FIFA World Cup champion, on Wednesday announced his retirement from football at the age 45.
“That’s all folks! You gave me everything. I gave you everything. We did it together,” Buffon said on X, formerly Twitter.
In the same tweet, he shared a video which showed his time with Parma, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and the Italian national team.
Buffon had two spells with Italy’s Parma in 1995-2001, and 2021-2023.
He was a Juventus regular from 2001-2018, and 2019-2021 but spent one season at PSG before his return to the Turin club.
In 2021, Buffon left Juventus to join his boyhood club Parma, where he ended his career.
He was the Italy goalkeeper when the team won the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
Buffon amassed 975 club appearances, and helped Juventus win 10 Italian Serie A titles, five Italian Cups, and six Italian Super Cups.
He also helped PSG win the French Ligue 1 title in 2019, and secured an Italian Cup, an Italian Super Cup and the 1999 UEFA Cup with Parma.
