Iga Swiatek of Poland managed to beat Jule Niemeier with 6-4 and 7-5 sets in the Australian Open 2023 women’s singles Round 1 game on Monday.

The world no.1 came back from 3-5 behind, winning four games straight against the German player and won the second set 7-5 at Melbourne Park.

“Pretty amazing. Despite being pretty nervous, I really enjoyed it,” said Swiatek, “I just wanted to focus on myself because I know Jule can serve amazing. At US Open, she was using the fast conditions and again, she was really putting pressure on me.”

Swiatek, 21, who bagged three tennis Grand Slam singles titles, is looking for her maiden Australian Open title after her semifinal exit last year.
