Iga Swiatek and Novak Djokovic cruised into the second round of the Wimbledon Championships on Tuesday.
Swiatek and Djokovic beat Sofia Kenin and Vit Kopriva in straight sets respectively.
“It was a solid start and not an easy draw, so I’m happy that I have a chance to play another match here,” said Swiatek, who beat Kenin 6-3, 6-4.
The Polish world No.1 has won all three matches she’s contested against Kenin.
Djokovic, who tore the meniscus in his right knee at the French Open and is doubtful for this year’s competition after undergoing surgery on June 5, said: “That was very good. I didn’t know how everything would unfold. I’m extremely pleased with how it felt.”
“I’ve done everything in the last three-and-a-half weeks to give myself a chance to play here. For any other tournament, I wouldn’t have risked it or rushed it. I just love Wimbledon. I love being here,” he added after his 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 victory against Kopriva.
World No. 6 Rublev eliminated by Comesana
Argentine player Francisco Comesana eliminated world No. 6 Andrey Rublev 6-4 5-7 6-2 7-6 (5) on Tuesday.
Comesana, who has zero grass court career wins, achieved a surprise win against the 2023 quarterfinalist.
The 23-year-old served 21 total aces, while Rublev could only produce six.
