Steven Gerrard named head coach of Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq on 2-year contract

ISTANBUL 

Saudi Pro League club Al Ettifaq confirmed Monday the appointment of Steven Gerrard as their new manager on a two-season contract.

“Al-Ettifaq Club has officially completed the contract with English coach Stephen Gerrard, according to which he will assume the position of coach of the first football team at Al-Ettifaq club until 2025,” the Saudi football club said in a statement.

The 43-year-old previously served Glasgow Rangers and Aston Villa as a head coach.

He ended his three-year managerial career in Scotland where he won the Scottish Premiership with Rangers in 2021 without suffering a loss.

During his playing career, the Liverpool legend produced 186 goals and 155 assists in 710 appearances for the Reds between 1998 and 2015.

He helped Liverpool win the 2001 UEFA Cup and the 2005 UEFA Champions League.

Gerard was inducted into the Premier League’s Hall of Fame in May 2021.
