Starlink to test satellite-to-cell phone service

ISTANBUL

Satellite-based communication provider Starlink will start beta testing for satellite-to-cellphone internet connections, it said Friday.

As announced by the firm’s billionaire owner Elon Musk, also a large political player in US and world politics, the company will start the test phase in three days.

Starting in 2018, Starlink sent 6,912 satellites in orbit, and 6,874 of them are currently working.

Starlink provides internet connections for many countries of the world, particularly in the US, without needing infrastructure.

Early in 2022, with the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war, Starlink started providing service to the war-battered country.

But some countries see the service as a problem for their independence by breaching local rules, such as enabling access to banned websites.
