Spain get new head coach after World Cup elimination

ANKARA

Spain have parted ways with their manager Luis Enrique after a shock World Cup last-16 exit to Morocco, the country’s football federation announced on Thursday.

The federation named Spain’s U21 coach Luis de la Fuente the new head coach.

On Tuesday, Spain, the 2010 FIFA World Cup champions, which were also deemed as one of the contenders in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, were eliminated by Morocco on penalties in the Round of 16.

Luis Enrique, 54, clinched a famous treble – winning a domestic title, domestic cup, and UEFA Champions League – with Barcelona in 2015 but couldn’t bag any titles with Spain.
