Spain’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday called on Israel to respect the legal principle of proportionality after Monday’s raid on the Jenin refugee camp in Palestine.

The military attack triggered clashes with local residents and saw an Israeli military helicopter firing missiles at a residential building, according to witnesses.

Palestine’s Health Ministry said Israeli soldiers killed six people, including a child, and injured 91 – 23 of whom are in critical condition. The Israeli military said several Israeli soldiers were wounded.

“Spain rejects the violence yesterday in the Palestinian refugee camp of Jenin and expresses its regret for the high number of civilians killed and injured in the clashes,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Spain urged the Palestinians and Israelis to move toward the solutions discussed in the Aqaba and Sharm El-Sheikh summits.

“Only the materialization of the two-state solution will be able to legitimately respond to Palestinian and Israeli national aspirations and create the framework for a fair and lasting peace,” the statement said.

The Israeli raid in Jenin drew a wave of condemnations from several other countries, including Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Türkiye, and the EU.
