S&P opens Monday higher after worst week since December 2022

ISTANBUL

S&P 500 opened Monday higher after recording its worst weekly performance since December 2022.

The index added seven points, or 0.17%, to 4,097 at 9.39 a.m. EDT (1439GMT). It posted a weekly loss of 1.1% last week.

The Dow Jones rose 99 points, or 0.29%, to end Friday at 33,968. The blue-chip index declined 0.2% last week.

The Nasdaq increased 52 points, or 0.45%, to 11,770. The tech-heavy index last week declined 2.4%.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 3% at 21.14, while the 10-year US Treasury yield fell 0.45% to 3.726%.

The dollar index lost 0.02% to 103.61, while the euro rose 0.02% to $1.0695 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in negative territory, with gold trimming 0.4% to $1,858 per ounce and silver decreasing 0.02% to $22.00.

Crude oil prices were down more than 1% with global benchmark Brent crude at $85.50 and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $78.91 per barrel.
