South Korean president calls for deeper nuclear cooperation with Czech Republic

South Korea’s president emphasized expanding cooperation with the Czech Republic in the nuclear energy sector, as well as in high-tech, transportation, and infrastructure, during his state visit to Prague, Korean media reported on Friday.

Speaking at the ‘Korea-Czech Business Forum’ on the second day of his visit, Yoon Suk Yeol proposed a bilateral collaboration to achieve a ‘nuclear energy renaissance,’ enhancing economic cooperation across various sectors.

“The good news from July was that Team Korea was selected as the preferred bidder for the Czech Republic’s new nuclear power plant project. Now is the time to take a step forward for deeper collaboration by initiating a ‘Team Czech-Korea’ to jointly achieve a nuclear renaissance,” Yoon said.

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala also highlighted the growing ties between the two nations.

In a tweet, Fiala announced that several bilateral agreements had been signed during the visit, including cooperation on completing the Dukovany nuclear power plant.

“We are deepening strategic cooperation in security, economics, industry, transport, high-technology, science, and research,” Fiala wrote on X, adding that relations between the two countries are now more intense than ever, with shared interests in modular reactors.
