Social cohesion key in Argentine reforms: German chancellor

BERLIN

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stressed the importance of social cohesion in Argentina’s planned reforms during a meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei in Berlin on Sunday.

Scholz and Milei discussed bilateral relations, including the economy, trade, renewable energy and global climate protection, German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said in a statement.

Hebestreit said the two also exchanged views on Argentina’s planned reforms and their possible impact on the public, with Scholz emphasizing the significance of social cohesion and its preservation in the reforms.

The two leaders also discussed the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) agreement with the EU and Germany’s support for Argentina’s membership in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Underlining that Milei and Scholz attended the Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland, Hebestreit said the two leaders agreed that it was up to Russia to end the war in Ukraine.
