Sevilla legend Navas to leave club at end of season

ISTANBUL

Jesus Navas will leave Sevilla at the end of the season after 21 years and two stints with the club, Sevilla confirmed Thursday.

“Jesús Navas will leave at the end of the current 23/24 season. Our captain announced the decision this morning to all the players and staff at the Ciudad Deportiva,” Sevilla said in a statement.

Navas began his football career with Sevilla before moving to Manchester City in 2013, winning the Premier League title in his first year and later returning to Sevilla in 2017.

“The club would like to wish Jesus Navas the best as embarks on a new professional chapter, as well as thank him for his commitment, professionalism and honesty with which he has shown throughout his career and for which he is one of our all-time greatest symbols” it added.

The 38-year-old made 688 appearances for the club, scoring 39 goals to go along with 119 assists.

The right-back will say goodbye to the club as the most decorated player in the team’s history with eight trophies, four UEFA Europa Leagues, two Copa del Reys, a European Supercup and a Spanish Supercup.

Navas won the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championship with Spain.

The Spanish national will be able to bid farewell to fans on May 25 in a La Liga match against Barcelona.
