Saudi Aramco, Iraq’s SOMO halt oil sales to India’s Nayara after EU sanctions

Saudi Aramco and Iraq’s state oil marketer SOMO have suspended crude sales to India’s Nayara Energy after the European Union imposed sanctions in July on the Russian-backed refiner, international media reported.

The London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) shipping data indicate that the suspension of supplies by the two Gulf exporters has left Nayara — whose majority shareholder is Russian oil company Rosneft — entirely reliant on Russia for its crude imports in August.

Shipment data from Kpler and LSEG show that Nayara typically sources about 2 million barrels of Iraqi crude and 1 million barrels of Saudi crude each month, but received no cargoes from either supplier in August.

SOMO and Nayara did not respond to requests for comment, while Saudi Aramco declined to comment.
