ISTANBUL
Manchester City’s right-back Joao Cancelo on Wednesday joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal on a three-year contract.
“Al-Hilal Club Company, chaired by ‘Mr. Fahad Bin Saad Bin Nafel’, has completed the signing of the Portuguese international player ‘João Cancelo’ coming from ‘Manchester City’; to represent Al-Hilal first football team for three seasons,” Al-Hilal said in a statement.
“The signing ceremony took place today, Tuesday, at the ‘Four Seasons George V’ hotel in the French capital Paris, in the presence of the club’s chairman of the board of directors,” it added.
However, the financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
Cancelo, 30, has played for top European clubs, including Benfica, Valencia and Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus and Bayern Munich.
The Portugal international helped Manchester City lift the 2023 UEFA Champions League title and three English Premier League trophies.
He also helped Portugal win the 2019 UEFA Nations League.
