Senior Russian and US officials on Friday met at a hotel in St. Petersburg and thereafter left without disclosing their destination.

Russian state news agency Tass published a video showing Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, and US presidential envoy Steven Witkoff leaving the hotel together and getting in the same car.

Unconfirmed media reports said they were heading to a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed Witkoff’s visit to Russia, suggesting that he was scheduled to have a third face-to-face meeting with Putin.

The Kremlin also announced that Putin was working in St. Petersburg on Friday, and will hold a meeting on the development of the Russian Navy.

The US envoy’s arrival in Russia comes a day after the conclusion of the second round of Russian-American talks on normalizing diplomatic relations held in Istanbul.
