MOSCOW
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and several members of the Russian delegation were granted visas to participate in the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, which opens on Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry has said.
“We expect visas to the rest of the delegation, as well as the prompt resolution of logistics issues, given the illegal sanctions, imposed by the US, blocking logistics for the arrival of Russian representatives to participate in the work of the UN General Assembly,” the ministry told Russian news agencies TASS and RIA on Tuesday.
The US and EU closed their airspace for all Russian aircraft after the beginning of the war in Ukraine on Feb. 24.
In June, Lavrov failed to visit Serbia because of logistical restrictions – Bulgaria, Montenegro and North Macedonia closed their airspace to the minister’s plane.
The first day of the high-level General Debate will be Sept. 20, and will run through Sept. 26.
