Russian, Belarussian para athletes allowed to compete under neutral flag at Paris Games 2024

ISTANBUL

The athletes from Russia and Belarus will compete as neutrals at the Paralympic Games of Paris 2024, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) confirmed on Friday.

“As this was a decision taken by the IPC General Assembly, I expect all IPC members to fully respect it,” IPC President Andrew Parsons said in a statement. “With the decision now behind us, I hope the focus, as we lead up to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, can now be very much on sport and the performances of Para athletes.”

The IPC members of the General Assembly in Manama, Bahrain voted 90-56 in favor of a motion to partially suspend NPC Russia while 79-57 voted to partially suspend NPC Belarus.

The Paris 2024 Paralympics will take place from Aug. 28 through Sept. 8.
