Romania’s pro-Western coalition government led by Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu won a confidence vote in parliament Monday, setting the stage for bold reforms and investments.
The coalition, comprising the National Liberal Party (PNL), Save Romania Union (USR) and the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), received 240 votes in favor, 143 against and 83 abstentions following Dec. 1 elections.
In his address to parliament, Ciolacu stressed the need for a functional government to stabilize the economy, ensure fair elections and address inequity.
“You cannot build a fair society where people gain greater economic power without also benefitting from social recognition,” he said.
Ciolacu’s speech set the tone for a government focused on reform, promising swift action to address social and economic challenges while ensuring fairness and transparency in the public sector.
