Italian football club Roma appointed on Thursday Claudio Ranieri as the team’s head coach until the end of the season.
“At the conclusion of the season, Claudio will transition into a senior executive role, where he will be an adviser to the ownership on all sporting matters at the club,” Roma said in a statement. “The search for a future coach will proceed over the next months. Claudio will have input in that decision as well.”
“He is a true symbol of the Club’s values and one of the most respected Roman sports figures worldwide,” it added.
Ranieri was also Roma’s head coach on two separate occasions, from 2009 to 2011 and 2019.
He sealed eight trophies in his managerial career, with his most remarkable achievement being Leicester City’s English Premier League title win in the 2015-16 season.
The 73-year-old Italian also led Valencia to win the 2005 UEFA Super Cup title.
Roma are ranked 12th in Serie A with 13 points after 12 games.
