Cristiano Ronaldo has shot down speculation about his international future, saying he wants to play for Portugal beyond this year’s World Cup.
“It has been a long road, but I would like to take the opportunity to say that my road is not over yet. I feel motivated, my ambition is high,” the 37-year-old said at the Portuguese Football Federation’s Quinas de Ouro ceremony on Tuesday.
“I am in the selection with a lot of young players and I want to be part of this World Cup and the 2024 European as well.”
The legendary striker has scored a world record 117 goals in 189 games for Portugal.
He has been captain of the national side since 2008 and led the team to the EURO 2016 title.
A stellar club career has seen Ronaldo win five UEFA Champions League titles – Manchester United (2008) and Real Madrid (2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018).
He has also picked up the prestigious Ballon d’Or five times.
