Renewable energy accounted for 62.8% of Türkiye’s total installed power capacity by the end of July, reaching 79,433 megawatts (MW), according to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.
Installed electricity capacity reached 126,476 MW last month, with domestic energy sources representing 71.9% of the total.
Solar power capacity reached 27,507 MW, accounting for 21.7% of Türkiye’s total installed electricity capacity. Wind capacity stood at 15,358 MW, with a 12.1% share.
Combined solar and wind capacity reached 42,865 MW, representing 33.8% of the country’s total installed capacity.
Hydropower remained the largest source, with 32,344 MW, accounting for 25.6% of the total.
Natural gas-fired power capacity stood at 25,013 MW, representing 19.9%, domestic coal capacity reached 11,565 MW, with a 9.1% share, and imported coal capacity stood at 10,466 MW, accounting for 8.3%.
Biomass capacity reached 2,425 MW, representing 1.9% of total capacity, while geothermal capacity stood at 1,798 MW, with a 1.4% share.
– Türkiye targets full energy independence
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said Türkiye continues to expand its energy capacity for a “stronger, more independent and more prosperous Türkiye,” reiterating the goal of achieving “full energy independence.”
Bayraktar said the 42,865 MW of installed solar and wind capacity demonstrates Türkiye’s “strong commitment” to energy transition.
