Red Bull’s Dutch driver Max Verstappen wins 2024 Formula 1 world title in Las Vegas

Red Bull’s Dutch driver Max Verstappen secured the 2024 Formula 1 world title in the Las Vegas Grand Prix, his fourth consecutive championship, on Saturday night.

With two rounds to spare, Verstappen, 27, sealed the drivers’ title after finishing ahead of his closest challenger, McLaren’s Lando Norris, in Nevada.

Verstappen came fifth on Las Vegas’ streets, while Norris completed Round 22 in the sixth spot.

Mercedes driver George Russell won the 50-lap Las Vegas Grand Prix from the pole position.

Russell, from UK, saw the checkered flag first with a time of an hour, 22 minutes, and 5.969 seconds.

His Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time F1 world champion, was second at the Las Vegas Strip Circuit 7.3 seconds behind Russell.

Ferrari’s Spanish driver Carlos Sainz completed the race third.

Verstappen has 403 points in the 2024 driver standings. Norris has 340 points in second. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc is now in third place with 319 points.

Formula 1 will travel to the Arabian Peninsula next for the remaining two races.

The next race, Round 23, will be held in Qatar next Sunday, with the season to end with the Abu Dhabi race on Dec. 8.
