Real Madrid will take on Eintracht Frankfurt in a 2022 UEFA Super Cup match on Wednesday in Finland’s capital Helsinki.
Last season’s UEFA Champions League holders Real Madrid are seeking their fifth Super Cup.
The Whites previously won it in 2002, 2014, 2016, and 2017.
The Madrid club will tie record holders AC Milan and Barcelona if they beat underdogs Eintracht Frankfurt from Germany.
Defending UEFA Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt have never secured the Super Cup, and it will be their first appearance in this competition.
In addition, it will be the clubs’ first meeting since the 1960 European Cup final, when Real Madrid beat Eintracht Frankfurt 7-3 in Glasgow.
The season opener at Helsinki Olympic Stadium will kick off at 1900GMT.
England’s Michael Oliver will officiate the match.
Meanwhile, UEFA said that the Semi-Automated Offside Technology (SAOT) will debut in the European club football contest on Wednesday.
“Semi-Automated Offside Technology (SAOT) will premiere in European club competitions at the UEFA Super Cup. The new system will operate thanks to specialised cameras which are able to track 29 different body points per player,” UEFA said on website.
The new system is expected to help game officials make quicker and correct decisions in difficult and tight offside positions as well as enhancing the flow of the game.
After trials in the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup and 2021 FIFA Arab Cup, the world football’s governing body previously confirmed that the SAOT will be used at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The first-ever winter World Cup will begin on Nov. 21.
